Driving license

ISSUING OF DRIVING LICENCE

The applicant must:

• Have his ordinary residence in Greece.
• Non-Greek but EU/EEA citizens: Can start 185 days after issuance of a residence certificate/permit for Greece.
• Non-EU/EEA citizens: Can begin 185 days after issuance of a residence permit card/sticker.
• Not hold another driving licence, of the same category, issued by Greece or another EU Member State (including Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein).
• Be over 18 years of age.

Documents required:

1. Photocopy of identity card or passport (if age of applicant not shown on these documents, an official document, indicating applicant’s age must be presented (birth certificate, military service certificate, etc.)
2. Photocopy of a valid establishment or residence permit or other equivalent document, if applicant is not a Greek national, issued at least 185 days before the application or 180 days if applicant is a national of the EU or Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein and which will still be valid until the day of reception of the Greek driving licence.
3. Two recent passport-type photographs (colour)
4. AFM/Greek tax number
5. Application:
   — Provided by the driving school and sent to the ministry office
   — Requests basic information (name, address, etc.)
   — Language preference for written test (Albanian, English, Greek, Russian)
   — Signature in a marked box will be used on your driver’s license
   — Statement of facts. Provided by the driving school, the text (in Greek) says that you authorize them to act on your behalf on matters pertaining to documents, tests and inquiries on the issuance of a driver’s license.
6. Greek social security number (if exists)

Theoretical lessons

Concerning cars and scooters/motorcycles, students must spend about  a week in the classroom for driver’s theory, plus one hour on the Ministry of Transport computer practice test. Study materials are available in Albanian, English, Greek and Russian.

Practical lessons

Our driving school submits elements from ‘Documents and fees’ to the Ministry of Transport to issue a learner’s permit,It is good for three (3) years.

For category B  automobiles, students spend a total of of 25 hours practical driving with an instructor, in a stick-shift (manual transmission) or fully automatic gear box car provided by the school. It is by appointment.
